April 24, 2004 | Emma to perform at Pop Beach 2004 |
-- [Thanks to Cynthia for posting]
Yarmouth's Pop Beach concert will be spiced up this year with Emma Bunton lined-up to perform. The former Spice Girl is among 13 leading acts signed up for the event, which is expected to draw crowds of more than 30,000 people to the resort. She will be joined by boy band Blue, Ash, Lemar, Supergrass, Goldfrapp, Shaznay Lewis, Big Brovas, Blazin Squad, Jamelia, Javine, Speedway and McFly.

Another five or six artists have yet to be confirmed, but these are likely to be announced in the next fortnight and speculation is continuing to mount over who the remaining chart acts will be. Rumours still suggest a top American name is being wooed and Lowestoft rockers The Darkness have been talked about, although their hectic tour schedule makes it doubtful they will appear in the final line-up. Meanwhile, Bert Collins, Yarmouth Borough Council deputy leader, made a plea for Australian chart-topper Kylie Minogue to put in an appearance, saying the resort would be so lucky.

He said: "Her sister Dannii came last year and really enjoyed it. I am sure she will have reported back and if Kylie is free I am sure she would only be too pleased to come to Yarmouth. It would be great to see her perform here." Mr Collins said he thought the line-up was impressive and included a more eclectic mix of artists than last year. "I am sure Emma Bunton and Blue will certainly draw the crowds, but we still have to wait and see who the remaining acts will be," he said.

"These could well be bigger name celebrities as they are more difficult to confirm until the last minute." The Channel 4 event is due to take place on June 6 and the borough council has pledged it will be "bigger and better" than last year. More than 22,000 spectators flocked to the town last July to watch chart acts like Dannii Minogue Misteeq Jamelia and Daniel Bedingfield.

Last year's gig which was given two hours of television coverage on Channel 4 saw the number of visitors in the town swell to nearly 60,000. As well as the revenue boost from revellers businesses benefited from the trade of more than 1000 production staff on site. Mr Collins said the council was continuing to work closely with the police and emergency services to ensure safety at the event.

"Everything is in place we are having regular meeting to make sure everything runs to plan. At the moment all the signs suggest this event will be just as successful as last year," he said. Tickets for this year's concert will go on sale on Friday for £12.50 and a booking fee. They can be bought from ticketmaster on 08712302644 or through Yarmouth tourist information centre on 01493 842195.

-- [Thanks to Robert for Posting]
EMMA BUNTON is the latest star to join the line-up for this summer's Glasgow's Live + Loud pop festival. The ex-Spice Girl joins Blue, McFly and Sugababes on the bill.

Emma - who launched her solo career in 2001 with chart-topping single What Took You So Long? - was confirmed today for the 30,000-capacity event at Hampden Park on June 20. Pop Idol finalists Sam and Mark are also on the bill, and they will be reunited with the show's winner, Glasgow singer Michelle McManus. Other artists appearing at the Clyde 1-organised event, now in its fourth year, include Jamelia, Phixx, V and Scottish pop newcomers Lemonescent, No Reason, 3 Style and Acoustic Love Experience.

More than 30 acts will appear in the final line-up for the gig, which is an all-afternoon event. Emma, 28, is set to release a new single in time for Live + Loud, a cover of Latino track Cricket Sings For Anamaria.
