No bloke, but Emma's got a new solo deal EMMA Bunton has spoken exclusively to 3am about her ground-breaking solo record deal Speaking to us at the 95.8 Capital FM Awards, the 27-year-old singer revealed she has signed up to Universal.

"It's very exciting. It's taken a long time to get the final things ironed out but it was definitely worth it," she said. "I've been in this business for a long time and want to have full control as I know what the game's about, what it entails and everything else. The deal is between myself, Simon Fuller and Universal. "Most of my album is pretty much ready to go and we'll just see what happens. My new single Free Me is out next month and the album will follow towards the end of the year.

"I'm so excited about everything and can't wait to start touring again either." Blonde Emma is hoping to achieve the same success she found with the rest of the Spice Girls - Melanie Chisholm, Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell and Melanie Brown - and has already played her new material to some of them. "It's brilliant," she added. "I'm very 'poppy' anyway, so it's quite a funky mix of contemporary pop, funk and a bit of 60s thrown in - proper girly stuff." Earlier this year the five Spice Girls - who have never officially split up - were reunited at Victoria's Hertfordshire home for a meal and a gossip about the old days.

It was believed they were discussing getting back together, but Emma rubbished these claims. She said: "We've all got a lot of individual things going on, and it's a very exciting time. Obviously we're still in touch and great friends and will always be massive supporters of each other. "Both Mels have heard some of my new material and thankfully they are very supportive. Their opinion means a lot to me as we went through so much together."

Emma is currently single after an on-off four year relationship with Damage singer Jade Jones. But although she is enjoying being single, she isn't off the boys for good. She laughed: "It's quite nice at the moment being single as I've so much going on. I'm free to do what when I want.

"And it does help when the sun is shining and everyone's happy. It's the winter when you get a bit fed up if you're single but hopefully by then I'll have found someone." Looking the way you do at the moment, Emma, you'll be fighting them off. In fact, Big Brovaz's J Rock couldn't keep his hands off Em at the awards. Despite dating Sugababes singer Keisha Buchanan he chased her round the room, groped her bottom and blagged her mobile number. What a gent.

S Club stunner Rachel judged last night’s New Woman Beauty Awards at London’s swanky Dorchester Hotel. The 25-year-old wore a sequin-encrusted dress and sexy strapped heels while awards were dished out to the manufacturers of top cosmetic products. Former Baby Spice Emma, 27, put in a guest appearance wearing a thigh-skimming blue dress. But judging by this picture it doesn’t look like the pop stars were in need of any cosmetic help.

EMMA BUNTON is being tipped to host a revamped version of The Clothes Show. Baby Spice is in talks with Channel 4 to front the programme with fashion designer SCOTT HENSHALL. The pair hope C4 chiefs will turn the show into a series.

A TV insider said: “Channel 4 are keen to develop a strong fashion programme — and think Emma and Scott could be the perfect antidote to What Not To Wear’s TRINNY and SUSANNAH. “Both Emma and Scott are very busy at the moment but there are hopes they will find time soon to record the programme.” Emma is concentrating on her pop career and releases her next single Free Me on May 26. But she has worked as a presenter for BBC shows in the past.

Scott is the darling of British fashion. He designed the show-stopping dress worn by S CLUB’s TINA BARRETT at the premiere of their movie Seeing Double. Scott also produced Oscar frocks for ANGELINA JOLIE, TAMARA BECKWITH and PARIS HILTON. But they were stolen from his car, parked in West London. Jolie was to present an award in his £3,000 red corset gown.

Kelly Rowland, S Club and Dannii Minogue are to headline Five's new pop music event this Easter. Spring Break Live will broadcast on the channel on April 27 from 12pm to 6.15pm live from Birmingham's National Indoor Arena. It features 23 acts including Big Brovaz, Busted, David Sneddon, Emma Bunton, Kym Marsh, Girls Aloud, Sinead Quinn, Sarah Whatmore, S Club Juniors and Abs.

The show will also include a live feed from Fox Kids Planet Live in Rotterdam featuring Blue, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, Gareth Gates and Cheeky Girls. Spring Break Live will be presented by Lisa Snowdon and Liz Bonnin.

EMMA BUNTON SPICES THINGS UP IN BRAZIL - 'GROWN UP' STAR RETURNS WITH SEXY NEW SINGLE

She may have shot to fame as Baby Spice, but look at Emma Bunton now. She is aiming to relaunch her solo pop career with a new single, 'Free Me', scheduled for release on May 26, and if the music is as good as these pictures she could be heading straight for the top.

Filmed in Rio de Janeiro, the video sees Emma getting up close and personal with rising Latin star Alexandre Germano. Emma says: 'There's something sexy about 'Free Me' without it being too overt. Its romantic but not gushy, and it's got a classical feel to it that i love.'

During the past year Emma has been out of the spotlight, but she hasn't been taking things easy - she's been busy working on her second album, which is due out later this year.

The latest track is Emma's first release since she parted company with Virgin records last year. She has been reunited with her former Spice Girls manager, and ex boyfriend, Simon Fuller, whom she is hoping will guide her back to the top of the charts. 'Simon and i have always stayed in touch,' says Emma. 'It felt very natural for us to work together again.'

'Free Me' CDUK MPEG Temporarily Down...
Im really sorry about this but I've had to Temporarily take down the 'Free Me' MPEG Video clip from CDUK that i'm hosting for Tamir. The reason is that in around 36 hours i've had over 35GB of traffic so to be able to keep my site up for the remainder of the month i've had to suspend the MPEG. How are you Emma?
[Emma] Im very good thankyou. Really good.

Ive seen the video, and its very James Bond Sequa.
[Emma] It is, I felt like a bond girl for the day.

You look very glam in it
[Emma] I had an absolute ball. We shot the video in Rio, which is such an amzzing place. The carnival had just finished so it was all still really colourfull. I had such an amazing time.

Did you get up to any salsa-ing?
[Emma] Yeah I did a bit of salsa-ing. It was really great.

Did you do lots of working out?
[Emma] I did actually, and im really enjoying it. Out there the video and guy it was just so romantic.

Did you get to choose the guy?
[Emma] YES! I had lunch with 2 guys and both were absolutely gorgeous, I was really lucky. And then all of a sudden the director told me I had to choose one now, and I was so embarrassed. I was like ‘can I have both’.

Anything beyond lunch?
Nooo not at all, but that would be telling

You’ve gone back to Simon Fuller, who use to manage the Spice Girls. How did that happen?
[Emma] We always kept in contact and he was very supportive of my last album. And I went through so many changes last year, and I wanted to change. And im very in control of everything I do, so I wanted to go back to someone who could give me great advice but still give me the freedom I need. Its been so natural.

You havnt, oh you have got a record contract?
[Emma] *Grins* I have but I cant talk about it at the moment. It’s a very different deal im going for, but to get what I want I have to wait a little longer. But I’ll tell you all about It next week.

EMMA BUNTON is making a desperate bid to relaunch her solo career — despite being turned down by the big record companies. The artist formerly known as BABY SPICE has failed to land a contract since being dropped by Virgin last year. But management company 19, headed by her old flame and former SPICE GIRLS guru SIMON FULLER, have come to her rescue.

They are financing her new single, Free Me, in a bid to show the major labels Emma can still turn out the hits. Fuller has already spent £200,000 on a video shoot in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The promo starts hitting TV screens this weekend.

And, as my exclusive pics show, Baby has grown up big time and has a sexy look in a bid to woo new fans. The single’s release is a gamble for Fuller, though it was the only way forward for Emma after the lack of interest from the majors. None of the Spice Girls have set the music world on fire since the girlband broke up. Original Spice label Virgin dropped all of them apart from MEL C — and even her last album’s sales were disappointing.

The lack of success has made other labels reluctant to pick any of them up. Emma’s latest talks with Universal broke down because execs thought financing her solo career was too risky. It was an uncertain future that led the girls to meet in February to talk about reforming. If 19’s punt on Emma pays off, Fuller may choose to fund an album — or it could lead to a major label coming in with an offer.



Whatever happens, Emma is pleased to be working with her old pal once more. She says: “Simon and I have always stayed in touch. “It felt very natural for us to work together again and I’m very focused on my music at the moment.” A source close to the singer said: “None of the Spice Girls have had the kind of success they enjoyed when they were in the band.

“The industry sees them as too much of a risk and, in the current climate of cutbacks, no one is prepared to spend big money. “Emma was in talks with Universal but nothing came of it. “It soon became clear the only way to put her song out was if Simon stepped in and released it himself.” Free Me is out on May 26.
